CDL’s Response to the Nature Publishing Co.’s Licensing Model

On the What’s New at the CDL page: <http://www.cdlib.org/news/whatsnew.html>, under “Communiques,” there is now a link to a recent letter from CDL to Nature Publishing Co.  The letter, composed with the help of the Joint Steering Committee on Shared Collections, conveys several reasons why Nature’s recently announced policies and pricing for their digital products do not meet CDL principles in support of research and education.  It further encourages Nature Publishing Co. to revise these policies.

The CDL is aware of many refusals to license the digital version of Nature and of other letters sent to Nature on this issue, including Harvard’s [see http://lib.harvard.edu/e-resources/details/n/naturexx.html].
