Recent Enhancements, News, and Activities

  • The DataCite summer meeting was held on September 19-20th, following the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Second Plenary. The meeting had the highest attendance yet for a DataCite conference, with participants coming from all over the globe. Slides and audio recordings will be made available soon, so stay tuned.
  • EZID is now the fastest growing DOI allocation agency among the DataCite member organizations, with more than 800,000 identifiers created. For a look at CDL’s DOI statistics, visit the DataCite statistics service: http://stats.datacite.org/. For a list of all available DataCite Services, see http://www.datacite.org/services.
  • We began laying the groundwork for new group-level administrative capabilities. When completed, these will offer more end-user control over identifier ownership. More details will be available soon.
  • EZID technical staff completed an update to the EZID User Interface (UI) allowing submission of DataCite XML for the new version 3.0 required and recommended metadata elements, and clients were invited to help test the new features. Submitting as much of the recommended metadata as possible is very important. Thomson Reuters will begin indexing DataCite content for exposure in their new Data Citation Index (part of the Web of Knowledge platform), but only for records that contain both the required and recommended metadata.
  • EZID clients were invited to submit suggestions and/or questions about the DataCite metadata schema (http://schema.datacite.org/) to the DataCite Metadata Working Group using the group’s new discussion forum at: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/datacite-metadata.

EZID Service Description
EZID (easy-eye-dee) is a production service that gives researchers the ability to create and manage long-term identifiers so that they can to track usage, get credit for their work, share their data, and have the data reused for additional research. As a result, EZID identifiers also make it possible to increase citations, to build on previous work, to conduct new research, and avoid duplicating previous efforts.
