By Amy Butros, UCSD, AGU Resource Liaison

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) entered into a publishing partnership agreement with Wiley-Blackwell in January 2013. As detailed in the press release, Wiley-Blackwell is now responsible for the journal subscriptions, production and distribution, while AGU retains control and ownership of the journals, including editorial control and oversight. This means that all of our AGU e-journal subscriptions were migrated over to the Wiley platform last month.

These journals are currently indexed and searchable from the GeoRef and Web of Science databases.

Springer Journal and Ebook content will be migrating to a new Springer platform effective Monday, November 26. Springer will redirect all users to the new SpringerLink site at this time. The new SpringerLink is faster, easier to use and optimized for most mobile devices.

Please note: Users’ individual personalized accounts created on the old SpringerLink platform will not be migrated to the new platform. Users wanting to save searches and alerts will need to create a new account when the new platform is made available. The old platform will be linked from the new platform and accessible through the end of 2012, in case you need to retrieve information or settings from your old account.

Remote access to the new Springer Platform will be provided via regular campus remote authentication methods.

Springer Protocol content will continue to be available from the Springer Protocols platform as well as from the new Springerlink platform.

Several campuses have selected to participate in a Tier 2 for an eBook collection from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

This collection, divided by imprint dates, has a front list consisting of 35 titles released from 2010-2012 which the seven following campuses will receive: Berkeley, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz. In addition, Merced will also obtain the 2007-2009 list of 27 titles and Berkeley will receive the full collection of 309 titles, including the backlist.

These books cover the following subject content: power and energy; computing & management; history of technology; electromagnetic waves; telecommunications; networks; radar, sonar and navigation; circuits, devices and systems and renewable energy. MARC records will soon be added to all holding libraries’ catalogs for each title. Simultaneous users can access a given title.

By Julia Gelfand, Resource Liaison and Applied Sciences & Engineering Librarian, UCI Libraries

Seven campuses (Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Santa Barbara, San Diego) are now participating in a Tier 2 negotiation for the ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library (SEDL) at http://enterprise.astm.org. ASTM, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of international voluntary consensus standards.

Today, some 12,200 active ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence. In addition there are 28,500 historical and withdrawn standards, plus 12,300 Redlined Standards (PDF documents that provide change marks to compare the additions, deletions or other changes between an active standard and the prior version) included where revisions were made. There are nearly 100 categories of standards with the largest number in the categories of Construction, Metals, Nonferrous Metal Products, Paint & Related Coating, Petroleum, Lubricants & Fossil Fuels, Plastics, Environmental, Rubber, Steel, Textiles, Electrical Insulation and Electronics, Water & Environmental Technology, Nuclear, Solar and Geothermal Energy, General Methods & Instrumentation, and new areas that reflect 3D Imaging standards, Additive Manufacturing Standards, Medical Device Standards and Implant Standards among others. The standards are searchable by keyword or standard number and full text access to all standards in either PDF or HTML format can be retrieved.

The SEDL requires that all users click through and accepts the terms of the license. While ASTM is best known for its standards, SEDL also includes nearly every other ASTM publication, including 1500+ books and 60,000+ papers and chapters dating back to 1932.

In addition to the standards, three main collections of publications compose the books, journals and papers of the SEDL, and the CDL Shared Cataloging or SCP unit will be processing individual bibliographic records at the source level for the following content that will be noted in Melvyl and local opacs:

Peer reviewed conference proceedings/Special Technical Publications (STPs)

Journals – ASTM issues the following titles:

Geotechnical Testing Journal

Journal of Testing and Evaluation

Journal of ASTM International

Journal of Forensic Sciences Backfile from 972-2005

Journal of Cement, Concrete and Aggregates (CCA) – historical issues

Journal of Composites Technology and Research (JCTR) – historical issues

Manuals, Monographs and Data Series Library – basically an eBook collection

This is a major digital resource for the participating campuses. If you have any additional questions, please contact Julia Gelfand, Resource Liaison (jgelfand@uci.edu; 949-824-4971)

By Holly Eggleston, Electronic Resource Analyst /Resource Liaison Coordinator

Following is an update on the status of the migration of many former RLG resources from the OCLC FirstSearch platform to the EBSCOhost platform scheduled for late 2012.

As the databases become available on the EBSCOhost platform, CDL will provide overlap access to both the new and old platforms by redirecting the database persistent identifier (PID) to point to the interim/overlap page.

Currently, it is expected that the old platform will be retired at the end of 2012, at which time the overlap access pages will also be retired and the CDL Shared Cataloging Program (SCP) staff will redirect the database PIDs to point to the databases on the EBSCOhost platform.

List of affected resources, PIDs, and their projected activation dates:

September

Anthropology Plus (http://uclibs.org/PID/34670)

Anthropological Index – merged into Anthropology Plus

Anthropological Literature – merged into Anthropology Plus

FRANCIS (http://uclibs.org/PID/9572)

October

Chicano Database (http://uclibs.org/PID/9574)

December

The UC Libraries currently subscribe to Avery Index via ProQuest, so our subscription to Avery is not affected.

CDL will provide overlap access to Anthropology Plus and Francis beginning 10/11/12. These two databases are currently active and accessible through the Choose Database feature on EBSCOhost; however, they may not appear in alphabetical order in the listing.

ProQuest discontinued its legacy platform and switched over to the new platform exclusively on Friday, 9/21, at which point users were automatically redirected from the old platform URLs to the new platform.

Systemwide resources affected included:

ProQuest Congressional

LexisNexis Congressional Historical Indexes (Tier 2)

ProQuest Congressional Hearings Digital Collection: Retrospective A

ProQuest Congressional: Unpublished Hearings Digital Collection (1973-1979)

Due to some new-platform functionality that was not in place until the old platform was turned off, CDL migrated with the automatic ProQuest transition on 9/21 instead of manually switching the systemwide licensed resource access points beforehand (as had been planned originally.)

Following the switch on 9/21, CDL updated the main PID http://uclibs.org/PID/6941 (and by extension http://uclibs.org/PID/8190 ) to point to http://search.proquest.com/congressional.

Please check with your campus contacts for more information regarding locally licensed resources.

For more information, new features, training materials and known issues regarding the ProQuest Congressional transition, please see http://www.proquest.libguides.com/pq_congressional and www.proquest.com/go/congmigration.
