Joan manages the EZID service at CDL, a service that makes it easy to create and manage unique, persistent identifiers. In addition, Joan chairs the Metadata Working Group of DataCite, an international organization working for easier access to and increased acceptance of research data in scholarly communications. And, she is active in FORCE11,a community of scholars, librarians, archivists, publishers and research funders working to help change scholarly communication through the effective use of information technology.

Joan is also Senior Project Manager for Infrastructure and Applications Support.

Joan came to CDL in 2006 from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco where she was a Senior Project Consultant in the Information Technology Services Department. She helped create a central project management function at the Bank, including the evaluation and implementation of a software tool for project management. She also worked with project managers to capture project documentation and enable measures of progress. Her previous position at CDL was as Manager of Project Planning and Resource Allocation.
