Melvyl Staff Survey
Library staff uses Melvyl for a
variety of purposes-as a bibliographic database in which to check citations
(not necessarily to get the work from the shelf), as a cataloging,
acquisitions, and collection development tool, etc. This survey is intended to
uncover some of the "hidden' tasks for which staff uses the current Melvyl
database, and as much as possible, to ensure that these functions are
available in the new Melvyl-t Aleph-based catalog.
(Your campus catalog may offer other features other than those in Melvyl,
but please answer the following questions with only the Melvyl Cat and PE
databases in mind.)
1) The following functions in Melvyl are:
2) How
often do you use Melvyl specifically to verify a bibliographic citation
(rather than to find a book to check out?)
3) In
general, when conducting a catalog search, do you use your local catalog
(e.g., Orion, CruzCat, Galen II, Pathfinder...) first or to Melvyl first?
4) For what other functions do you use the Melvyl
Catalog and Periodicals Titles databases that you are concerned about losing
with the new catalog?
5) Campus
affiliation
If you selected other please specify:
6) Your
Library Department (choose as many as apply)
7) How
long have you worked for UC
Thank you
for your participation in this survey.
