Was it clear/obvious how to link to various services offered by SFX (please explain)?
I am disappointed that SFX testing has included only CSA and Gale. I have heard that Nov. 7 (today) is the final day for testing, and ProQuest is still not available. Frankly, I would like to see several (not just one) more A&I vendors included in testing. Please extend the testing period and add new vendors.
OpenLink (SFX) really doesn't mean anything that would make me link to it if I didn't know about this project. Of the three databases, the UCLink seems the clearest. I didn't like just having the SFX button in Expanded Academic, either. It's so heavily used by undergrads, that we'd have to do LOTS of explaining to get them to use the link unless it's clear that it'll lead to UC information.
not immediately (had to wait until clicked on title: couldn't sfx be on the first page? On 2nd page it was clear enough.
No, it's not clear where to go to find out the services offered by SFX. The icons are very confusing.
not really. was I supposed to click on SFX-UC? When I did, I got the intermediary screen listing a link to Science Direct etc. But it took me awhile to find the SFX-UC link and then I end up having to open 4-5 windows to get to eventual full text. I take it that it's impossible to just click on something and get to the full text? that's what patrons would expect. You should see their faces when I show them they have to open about 5 windows.

Well, yes, but again, like Gale, we are not necessarily clear what linking to SFX will do. With Proquest it does say 'Holdings Link' but saying 'Local Holdings' would be much better, much clearer.

Not at first, but then I realized I needed to click on UC Elinks, since that was what we're testing.
Very clear where to choose UCe-Links.
clear first page
a direct connection rather than several clicks between finding the citation and knowing whether and in what form it's available from uc would be better
No, only when I clicked on the abstract link did I find the UC e links. Many professor's do not have the capability to print out the articles themselves and they want DDS to do it for them.

would be useufl to hve sfx info on results page.
For "Multinational firms and the new trade theory", there is no icon to link to the page having SFX link. There is no way to check the local holdings.
see #2
My question/problem is: will links only be available for abstracted only hits? If so this creates a problem. Many times students need hard copy to view tables, pictures, etc. that are excluded from ascii text full-text.
See above, see below.
See above, see below. Also, with a list of citations, to check local links/holdings the thing to do is click on the little castle/structure, but it does not say what doing so does unless one puts the mouse over it. Instead of a structure we should have a small 'UCB' there. Or a UCB in a structure. The icon alone is not quickly understandable.
Never found the citations mentioned in the directions.
SFX did not call up the Markusen pollution abatement article directly. Rather, it merely took me to the main journal page on Sciencedirect.
None really, just the need to re-size the Melvyl screen to be able to see the holdings display
Electronic article found in Blackwell/Ingenta. The font size is too small!
We actually have the journal at ucsb (and the specific issue needed) for question #2, but melvyl doesn't show that. It would be better for users to connect with Pegasus where they can find out for sure what we have if MELVYL pe is not up to date with our holdings.
Finding the commands to do a search by author. It should be made easier. It was very difficult to figure out what the commands were for searhing. I went to search info and found I have to type in author and put it in parentheses in order to search it. I would be much easier if it were in a pull down menu. There are so many different databases our patron have to use and each one is different. I think it is asking too much for them to learn commands structures as well. They are already confused enough.

Search no. 2: when clicking on the SFX function for local holdings to see if we held the journal. We do at UCB but if we follow the links we also can get the item full-text electrnically. HOWEVER, on the SFX page it never says we can link to full-text. Ingenta is the journal provider.

It would be sweet if it could provide tables in a formatted condition: .csv, .xls., etc.
