1. New Resources Available
NOTE: New resources listed below are not yet in the CDL Directory of Collections and Services; they will be added within the next 2 weeks. You can access them directly from the URL provided.a. Periodicals Contents Index
Periodicals Contents Index (PCI) is a multi-disciplinary database, purchased through CDL and campus co-investments in 1999. It contains separate citations to over ten million journal articles and covers many disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. It indexes complete runs of journals, some back to 1770 and includes English-language journals from North America, the United Kingdom, the rest of the English-speaking world, and journals in other languages including French, German, Italian and Spanish.
As recommended by the Joint Steering Committee on Shared Collections, the CDL has purchased four additional segments of PCI and the PCI full text database. PCI segments the index to provide new data as it becomes available in digital format. The CDL has now purchased all available segments for UC use.
The Periodicals Content Index full text Database [http://pcift.chadwyck.com] includes the complete run of 70 journals; at least 25 journals will be added every quarter with the earliest articles dating back to 1802. Note: when viewing PCI citations full text is only offered where there is a "View Full Text" icon.
Modest annual campus access fees are not affected by the additional content.
b. North American Women's Letters and Diaries, Colonial-1950 (NAWLD)
The first release of the North American Women's Letters and Diaries, Colonial-1950 (NAWLD) is now available [http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/efts/asp/NAWLD/]. This is the first release of the production version of this database and includes approximately 3,000 pages of letters and diaries from 69 women.
When complete, NAWLD will be the largest collection of women's diaries and correspondence ever assembled. Spanning more than 300 years, it will bring the personal experiences of 1,500 women to researchers, students, and general readers.
c. Congressional Universe - Congressional Indexes, 1789-1972 (Sherry Dedecker, UCSB)
Sherry DeDecker negotiated a license for the Tier 2 resource Congressional Indexes, 1789-1972, an auxiliary segment of Congressional Universe, [http://web.lexis-nexis.com/congcomp/]; it is now available for Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Diego.
The Congressional Indexes 1789-1972 provide citations to the following.
- U. S. Serial Set:
-House and Senate legislative and investigative reports and documents
-Annual reports and statistical publications from Federal agencies
-Journals of the House of Representatives and Senate
-Administrative reports of both chambers of Congress
- Senate Executive Documents and Reports
- U.S. Congressional Committee Hearings
- Unpublished Hearings from the Committees of the House and Senate (1823-1972)
- U.S. Congressional Committee Prints
Sherry Dedecker (UCSB) is the Resource Liaison for Congressional Universe, which is provided for all campuses through shared resource funds from the Shared Collections and Access Program (SCAP).
