a. Shirley Leung to Serve as Senior Associate for East Asian Digital Resources
Shirley Leung has temporarily joined the CDL as Senior Associate for East Asian Digital Resources.

Shirley was the University Librarian at Hong Kong Baptist University for the past seven years; prior to that she served as an Associate University Librarian and for one year acting University Librarian at UC Irvine. She also was a librarian at UC Riverside and at the State University of New York at Binghamton. Shirley has an extensive list of publications and presentations to her credit. In addition, she has received a number of grants.

Shirley will report to Daniel Greenstein. Her responsibilities will include surveying the East Asian digital resources vendor marketplace, developing functional requirements for UC access to Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language materials, identifying which utilities need to be in place for a UC shared East Asian digital collection to work, recommending a business plan, and developing recommendations on how to best coordinate the acquisition and cataloging of shared East Asian digital collections among the UC libraries.

The need for Shirley's work for the CDL was established by the CDL East Asian Digital Resources Task Force and is supported by Systemwide Operations and Planning Advisory Group. The Task Force was responsible for developing a systemwide strategy to take advantage of the increasing number of East Asian digital resources. The Task Force prepared a white paper that outlined the need for a sustainable infrastructure and explored the possible approaches to management, services and funding options. The white paper is available at the East Asian Digital Resources Task Force page. Shirley can be reached at shirley.leung@ucop.edu.
