As mentioned in CDLINFO previously, the UC Libraries Heads of Public Service (HOPS) and the Education Working Group of the CDL (EWG) are hosting a one-day workshop on instruction and reference for digital resources. The workshop is designed to collaborate and share methods, tools, and materials for instruction and reference for digital resources in the UC context, and to discuss and develop sustainable, continuing mechanisms for UC collaboration in instruction and reference for digital resources. HOPS members at each campus are coordinating attendance. The agenda for the workshop, which is being hosted by the CDL, is online at: http://www.cdlib.org/libstaff/education/ewg/.
This is a reminder that the tests and mockups for the CDL July 19 Release are available at http://www.cdlib.org/libstaff/july2000/.
The following tests will be announced this week:
- Test versions of links to books and other monographs from BIOSIS, INSPEC and PsycINFO
- Links to Digital Dissertations
- Changes to Online Access and Print Access displays
We encourage all library staff to test and comment on the proposed changes. The last day for comments is June 15. Please send your comments or suggestions to cdl@www.cdlib.org.
a. Roy Tennant Joins CDL
Roy Tennant, who has been working on a part-time basis for the CDL's eScholarship initiatives, will join us full time beginning June 1, 2000. As the Manager - eScholarship Web and Services Design, Roy will lead the efforts to design the web site and specify services for the e-print repositories, online publications, and other innovations in scholarly communication for disciplinary communities that eScholarship will serve. Roy comes to the CDL with an extensive record and reputation for service to the digital library community and a stellar career at the UC Berkeley Library. Roy's accomplishments include managing the Berkeley Digital Library SunSITE, founding the Web4Lib and DigLibns electronic discussions, and creating the popular "Current Cites" publication in 1990. He has been a CDL collaborator from the beginning, serving on the Tools and Services Working Group. Please join us in welcoming Roy to his new CDL position, which is fortunately both physically and organizationally close to his former one at Berkeley.

Fred Gey from UC Data (UCB) has joined the California Counts team. The California Counts project - see CDLINFO vol 3 no 6 (
http://www.cdlib.org/news/cdlinfo/cdlinfo051600.html) - is pleased to be able to draw upon his extensive expertise in converting social science data sets for online use. For more information on California Counts see:

c. Departures
CDL Technologies will miss the expertise and extraordinary good will and energy of Lynne Grigsby-Standfill and Sal Gurnani, both of whom have left in May for programming positions in the private sector. Lynne contributed to and witnessed an amazing range of UC-wide library development during her 19 years of service to UCOP. During his three years Sal brought focus for the CDL in several important areas, including security and authentication issues. We wish them success and happiness in their new endeavors.
