1. New Resources Available

a. Dekker Encyclopedias
By Julia Gelfand (UC Irvine), Resource Liaison

Nearly all UC campuses are participating in the online Dekker Encyclopedia project via a voluntary Tier 2 program.

The publisher, Marcel Dekker, has been issuing encyclopedias in print for many years. This year, UC campuses that chose to participate will obtain online access without committing to the print version or to supplement existing print holdings with the online version and updates. Perpetual licensing of these products and shared cataloging for the titles selected by three or more campuses is now underway.

Fourteen titles in the disciplines of agriculture, chemistry, engineering, medicine, pharmacy and pharmacology, public administration, statistics, and library/information science are now available. Seven new titles are being released over the next few months.

Online access allows for full text searching and browsing from the table of contents or index, and full page copying. Descriptions of the encyclopedias can be found at: http://www.dekker.com

The following titles and participating campuses indicate where online access will be available (not every title was acquired or licensed):

Pest Management: UC Santa Cruz
Chromotography: UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego Surface & Colloid Chemistry: UCLA
Soil Science: UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz

Water Science: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz
Optical Engineering: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz

2. Library Staff News

a. Jennifer Colvin Joins the CDL Staff

Beginning on June 15, Jennifer Colvin will join the CDL on a three-year staff contract as the Senior Communications Analyst. Over the past year, Jennifer has been at the CDL as a contractor working several communications projects, including the CDLINFO newsletter.

In her new role, she will refresh and extend an overall communications plan for the CDL, as well as continue in a variety of writing and editing responsibilities.

3. Correction: American Geophysical Union (AGU) Journals

In the last issue of CDLINFO, it was incorrectly stated that the CDL funded access to the American Geophysical Union (AGU) ejournals. Access to the AGU ejournals is in fact funded by all of the UC campuses; the CDL paid for the shared print archive.

Some campuses have reported problems accessing the AGU journals online. The CDL is working with AGU to resolve the problem.
