Melvyl Catalog Alternatives to CDL Directory Functions

The Melvyl Catalog can be used to replace several of the functions that the Directory of CDL-Licensed Content used to provide.

  • To determine if a specific title is part of a UC-systemwide license and you are not sure of the providing vendor, search for the title in the Melvyl Catalog. Once you've located the record, click the Details/Locations link to display the Full Record. Then click the UC San Diego (where SCP is located) link to display UCSD's version of the record. Click the MARC link to display the MARC record. The 793 field includes the vendor's Title hook.
  • To verify coverage dates for a UC-systemwide licensed electronic resource, search for the title in the Melvyl Catalog. Once you've located the record, click the Details/Locations link to display the Full Record.
    1. For UC-systemwide licensed ejournals, check UCSD's holdings.
    2. For UC-systemwide licensed databases, coverage dates are usually included in the Full Record information. Additionally, you can also check the database vendor's web site for coverage dates of specific databases.
  • To determine the correct URL or PID for a resource, search for the title in the Melvyl Catalog. Once you've located the record, click the Details/Locations link to display the Full Record. Click the MARC link to display the MARC record. Look at the PID entered in UCSD's (catunit=SDB) 856 field.
