SCP Alternatives to CDL Directory Functions

The Shared Cataloging Program's (SCP) Authorized Headings List can be used to replace several of the functions that the Directory of CDL-Licensed Content used to provide.

  • To determine if a resource is licensed UC-systemwide (Tier 1) or is part of a multi-campus or other (Tier 2, 3, or 4) license, open the Authorized Headings List [Excel]. Column D of this spreadsheet indicates Tier 1 or Tier 2, 3, or 4. Additionally, Column E indicates which campuses are licensed to access a specific resource.
  • To determine the databases licensed UC-systemwide from a specific vendor, open the Authorized Headings List [Excel]. With the spreadsheet open, highlight the entire spreadsheet and then sort (Data / Sort) by Column G (Vendor). All databases from a specific vendor will be grouped together.

An additional neat trick of this Excel spreadsheet is that you can do subsorts on the information. Let's say that you wanted a list of the Gale Group databases, but you also wanted to know which ones are on the InfoTrac platform and which are not. When you select Data / Sort, sort first by Column G (Vendor) followed by a sort of Column F (Platform).

  • To determine if a specific UC campus has access to a resource, open the Authorized Headings List [Excel]. Column E indicates which campuses are licensed to access a specific resource.

The SCP's E-Resources Tracking web page can be used to replace some of the functions that the Directory of CDL-Licensed Content used to provide.

  • To view a vendor's title list OR to determine if a specific title is part of a UC-systemwide license and you know the providing vendor, use the Shared Cataloging Program's (SCP) E-Resources Tracking web page. Once on this web page, locate the provider (Package Name) in the matrix. The fourth column (Package Details) generally indicates how to locate the journal titles included in a specific package.
