Just browsing
just trying it out
Looking for minimum wages history which I know I found in California Statistical Abstract. It would be nice to just do a Keyword search for the database. But is that not possible?
on the right path it seems
We don't currently have Excel on the computer we use for Internet so the many files in Excel were not accessible to us.
HOW DO YOU DO A SITE SEARCH?
Never use it
Would like more specific range of topics (i.e. number of teens on welfare)
looking for census 2000 info on education demographics in my area.
eagerly awaiting 2000 updates
Can't find newer data thatn 1989 which is useless
the info was too old - I don't care about 1993
great, easy to use site -- I'll be recommending it
some thigs are dificult to understand
but, there were some gaps in the data available--i know that you will upload it as soon as you get it, but more recent data would be helpful.

would depend on what I am looking for
Second, would be geographical searching.
None. No way to search for what you want
Search/advanced search boxes are helpful
"By Geography" helped me compare regions
this is a great feature

Second choice would be to e-mail.

Basically no prob. however font is small on screen
most files appear to require Excel to be installed and we don't have it installed
"search" at http://countingcalifornia.cdlib.org/gsdl-bin/library gave me a "404"
some tables too wide to print
Unable to retrieve any MS Excel files, or EA tables
searching by topic more effective than using the search feature
printing of wide tables not really possible
1989 info is outdated and useless
need newer data!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Acrobat crashed

What did you like most about Counting California?

the pretty colors
Quick results; ability to compare across cities without reissuing the search
fairly easy to use
One stop for all California statisitical information without having to search multiple sources, some of which we do not own.
no opinion as of now
Logical place to start for CA stats. Organization is simple and effective.
good breadth of coverage, good topics, simple to understand
easy to navigate
Having all this information in one place
Nothing yet. Will go back to Rand California until something better comes along.
Cools image links Provide hierarchical searches
I like it catergorize the data, It provides me various ways to choose the data that I need.
The "Chart It" function
handy source of info
I found what I wanted, which I didn't find on the Census Bureau web site. Also, I like the community breakdown within counties. And I like the charts.
Another statistical resource is always helpful!
Extent of information available.
This is absolutely fabulous!! A wonderful resource that I will be using a lot and telling others to use. I am constantly providing this type of data on San Mateo County to a variety of clients, and this is a great find for me.
Lots of good statistical data
Nice, clean-looking appearance.
Clear and easy to read. Uses some census-type jargon that some people may not understand.
I like being able to search many different ways (by topic, geography, etc., etc.).
easy to navigate
ability to compare counties -- but would like to be able to print it out
variety of topics
The reports were easy to read and contained good data.
that you had agricultural data available and the ability to limit by geographic area!

What did you like least about Counting California?

that garish orange
The "map it" function didn't seem particularly useful, at least with the data I tried. THe legends were quite cryptic
Some terms are not understandable to a non-statistician. For example, what does "Aggregate Money Income in, 1989" mean?? (I'm looking at school enrollment) I can't figure out what the numbers mean (0.003, etc.)
I would like a keyword search option for whole database. Or at least by topic.
no opinion as of now
Are you going to add 2000 census data? That's what we are trying to get now. Not sure what the numbers were telling me--per family? per person? is this an average?, etc.
Okay for now.
the Excel format for most files
NA
Some material in Excel format did not display or print clearly. Text and numbers were hard to read, both on the screen and when printed out. Some digits appear to have been replaced by a / (See the table on Library Statistics by Type of Library for an example.
No way to do a site search that I could discover. How do you research a specific question? Takes too long to go through all your screens. Data not always clear when I got it.
How do i know if the data is not outdated? Is it reliable?
I think the interface of i"nformation by topic" is a little bit confusing.
The format of the data returned. It was difficult to understand sometimes.
Table names seem really similar to each other; it's unclear which one to choose. Also, it's not clear how to get to the detailed data.
I am not crazy about the font or the all-caps sections. I would also like to know where you found your data. I get nervouse citing data that has been taken from other (unknown) sources.
I had trouble when I got to the results page. The black type looks more like a title than a header, but they're not very good headers, either. (I was following your "Sample Session" and had difficulty finding the table mentioned in the session. Also, I assume you'll be working on the mapping to get better legends.
I don't like the use of Excel documents to present the data
It doesn't include 2000 census data.
Wish there was an easier way of seeing tables available without scrolling through the entire page.
When you are presented with your results, you do not know where the info. came from until you click on the result you want to view.
information from census 2000 not yet available
having info in percentages would be good graphing/charting doesn't seem to work -- in tables I tried, could only graph one cell at a time -- which defeats the purpose, it seems
Completely out of date
data that was way too old to be useful- which negated the entire thing
Sometimes it was hard to tell how to click through to get a specific subset of information (eg housing statistics just for Los Angeles County) -- but not that hard
that there was not enough data and it is slightly old (although i am aware that we are waiting on a more current census).

Additional Comments:

Nice looking site; easy to use. However, it's not clear to me if the 'Map it' feature maps only the data I'm looking at or all the data for the state (table P056). I'll send additional comments as I look at specific pages.
I'm sorry I didn't like it better. I'd be glad to try it again once you have a searching capability.
1. Your "Monthly Poll" page result should be a pop-up window rather than the entire page alone (have to click Back button to go back). 2. The result in the table was confusing (no border) 3. A return simply listing hundreds of result in alphabetical order was not helpful. I got lazy and uninterested as I go down halfway through...too much info. 4. I tend to miss words in the alphabetical listing return.
I successfully copied the tables I wanted into Excel, so I could sort and print them. You might want to add instructions on how to do this. It looks like this will be a great service!
Can't wait until all the bugs have been worked out!
THANK YOU!
Great resource! Keep up the good work.
It seems like it would be useful to students needing figures to support their research and to others needing statistical info.
Thanks!
This is one of the most fantastic sites available to anyone working with public policy issues in California. Thanks for being there!
