The California Digital Library selected Serials Solutions 360 Resource Manager as its ERMS solution to manage CDL’s shared licensing activities for Tier 1 and CDL-supported Tier 2 resources.
The basic goals of the ERMS will be to serve as a database of record for licensed content managed by the CDL, organize CDL workflow, and provide critical information to campus librarians, while minimizing redundancy of data entry and multiple system management. Areas of core functionality include:
Providing information to end-users (such as students, faculty, and other library patrons) is not a goal of the CDL ERM system. While we recognize that the ability to communicate terms of use to end users via an intermediate system (such as the SFX services menu) is a desirable feature, it is not currently on our development plan.

From 2005-Fall 2007, the UC Libraries engaged in planning for a systemwide consortial ERMS. That project was disbanded in favor of a CDL-only solution in 2008. Early documents that resulted from this project are archived under SOPAG Task Groups (see Electronic Resources Management System Planning).
Further planning and analysis on this systemwide effort were documented by the UC ERMS Implementation Team .
