Schedule

July 2008

  • LHDRP kickoff meeting.  Hosted by CDL. Thursday 7/10, 11:00am-3:00pm (lunch provided by CDL)
  • "Copyright Issues for Digitization Projects" workshop.  Hosted by Infopeople (Mary Minow, instructor). Friday 7/11, 8:30-4:30 (continental breakfast provided by CDL)

This workshop will provide an introduction to basic copyright concepts, situating it as one of many ways to protect content; discuss copyright terms, methods for determining the copyright status of a work, and obtaining permission to publish copyrighted materials; provide an overview of "fair use" and Section 108 principles; and highlight additional legal concerns.

Please bring a small group (ca. 5 items) of original items -- or photocopies of the original items -- that are representative of collections that you are planning to digitize.

Location for both sessions:

Fremont Main Library
"Fukaya A" room
2400 Stevenson Blvd.
Fremont, CA 94538
(510) 745-1400

The Fukaya A room is in on the right side of the front of the library; a door will be propped open prior to the meetings so that the room is easy to access from the parking lot.

September 2008

  • LHDRP scanning and metadata training.  Hosted by CDL. Date/time and location to be determined

This meeting will provide an overview of the process for sending materials to Northern Micrographics for scanning, including the shipping process, working with an online data entry tool to prepare packing lists, receiving deliverables, quality control checking, and other considerations. It will also provide an overview of the LHDRP Handbook descriptive and rights metadata guidelines, for the purpose of cataloging in CONTENTdm.

Please bring a small group (ca. 5 items) of original items -- or photocopies of the original items -- that are representative of collections that you are planning to digitize.
