Request Policies
Requests from the MELVYL Catalog:
- Requests are initiated from the Melvyl Catalog.
- The service is available to faculty, staff, and students.
- Loan periods for faculty, staff, and students will be standard intercampus loan periods
- Materials covered:
- Requests for titles held locally will be rejected unless they are checked out, missing, or
withdrawn. Patrons making such requests will be offered document delivery if available on
their campus.
- Requests for circulating non-book materials will be processed directly
through Request.
- There are no limits on the number of Requests a user may submit.
- Load leveling will continue: Requests are first distributed to the RLFs, then to
Group I holding locations (net borrowers); and, last, to Group II holding locations (net lenders)
and, finally, CRL.
- Delivery to libraries continues to be via courier. (Libraries may then, if they choose,
deliver directly to the patron.)
Abstracting and Indexing Databases: (For articles and other indexed materials)
- Requests can be initiated from UC-eLinks or Multi-item Request.
- Service is available to faculty, students, and staff.
- There are no limits on the number of Requests a user may submit.
- Requests for articles with available, linked, online
full-text versions will are not blocked
- Patrons requesting articles with potentially available electronic
versions or locally provided internet versions will be alerted to this
possibility from all databases.
- Patrons requesting titles/volumes held locally will be provided a
choice between selecting document delivery (if offered by campus) or
canceling their request.
- Intercampus delivery will be to libraries via courier, ARIEL, and Fax.
- Load leveling approach will be the same as described above for monographs.
- Other existing UC interlibrary loan and circulation guidelines
and policies as codified in the
UC ILL Manual remain in place.
These include Universitywide standards for fulfillment time for intercampus requests.
