UC-eLinks Project Team

The UC-eLinks project team guides the implementation of all of the services available through UC-eLinks and other integration services. The team ensures that implementation is coordinated among the different services as needed. The current components of UC-eLinks include SFX, Request, links to holdings in the Melvyl Catalog, and multi-item services.

Charge

  • Plans and specifies for implementation new integration services following the guidelines, principles, and recommendations of the CDL Tools and Services Working Group.
  • Identifies policy questions and refers to the appropriate groups (e.g, Resource Sharing Committee, Heads of Public Services, SOPAG, etc.).
  • Creates a project plan and provides reports to CDL management.
  • Ensures that UC-eLinks integrates with various search/discovery tools, including the Melvyl Catalog, article databases, and tools such as SearchLight.
  • Assesses the service implications for implementing UC-eLinks in article databases including:
    • Determining the impact on Request.
    • Testing or coordinating the testing of metadata for different types of documents.
  • Designs user interfaces and works with graphic designers as needed.
  • Creates specifications or guidelines for vendors on metadata requirements, presentation of UC-eLinks within the user interface, and functional requirements.
  • Develops procedures for the maintenance of SFX knowledge database and is responsible for its accuracy and currency.
  • Coordinates campus library contributions to the SFX knowledge database or interrelationships between the CDL and the campus library SFX servers.
  • Identifies and assesses opportunities for extending services to new communities, e.g., new partners for Request or interoperability with other institutions' OpenURL servers.
  • Assesses the need for new tools to extend services.
  • Identifies needs for usability testing and coordinates tests with the CDL's education group.
  • Determines the need for and methods of obtaining evaluation and assessment measures.
  • Coordinates with other groups within CDL as needed, including the services group, the content management infrastructure group, the collections group, and the collection integration group.
  • Determines communications and promotional activities. Provides information to the CDL education and outreach group for publicizing new developments in UC-eLinks and for identifying any training needs. Communicates information and concerns to and from the campus libraries through the use of appropriate publications, listservs, and liaisons.
