  • Federal grants from the Library of Congress, the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), and the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) totaling nearly $1.5 million are awarded in support of the Online Archive of California (OAC). September CDLINFO article

  • Richard Lucier is appointed as CDL University Librarian and Executive Director. October
  • Library Planning and action Initiative (LPAI) web site is launched, providing information to the UC community about the initiative and strategic projects. February

1996

  • LPAI Advisory Task Force holds its first meeting. December
  • President Atkinson announces the Library Planning and Action Initiative (LPAI) to create a framework for library development. August
