Services

The California Digital Library pursues technological innovations that provide solutions to the University of California libraries for the discovery, integration, manipulation, and sharing of scholarly content in all forms. The CDL provides some direct online services and makes tools available to the UC libraries and others for the customization of local services.

CDL services enable the following:

  • Discovering print and digital materials in the UC libraries and beyond, including the 32 million items in the UC libraries via the MelvylŪ Catalog.
  • Streamlining access to online and print materials by linking from article citations to the full online content or to the locations for printed materials via UC-eLinks.
  • Manipulating content by providing tools to export citations to citation management software, or to create and export presentations using digital images.
  • Creating and sharing scholarship by providing faculty with experimental publishing tools and infrastructure.
  • Influencing commercial products by developing technical and functional requirements, and by working with UC subject specialist librarians, known as Resource Liaisons, who monitor and influence licensed products.
  • Supporting UC librarians by communicating with the Users Council, sponsoring workshops, and providing a Help Desk and guides for troubleshooting.

For more information about specific CDL services, see the descriptions of collections and services.

To learn about the UC libraries' collaborative efforts to expand services, see the expanding shared services section of the UC Libraries web site.
