See the supported environments document [DOC] for browser requirements for the web client.
Installation Steps for Windows XP and Vista
You must have Administrator rights on the PC to install both the Oracle client and the VDX client.
VDX 4.1 (upgrade)
- If the PC has an Oracle client earlier than 10g and/or VDX client earlier than 4.1, remove it.
- Verify the Oracle 10g client is installed and configured.
- Install the VDX 4.1 client.
- Verify connection to the server.
VDX 4.1 (new workstation)
- Install and configure the Oracle 10g client (instructions below).
- Install the VDX 4.1 client (instructions below).
- Verify connection to the server.
VDX 3.2.2 and earlier client software can and should be removed.
Oracle 10g Client
The VDX 4.1 Windows client requires the Oracle 10g client. You may download this software directly from Oracle. (You must create a login on the Oracle web site but there is no fee.) The distribution is large, approximately 600 MB, so you may want to save a local copy if you are installing on multiple workstations.
CDL tested Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.3) which supports 32-bit Windows XP and Vista. The download for both Windows XP and Vista is 10203_vista_w2k8_x86_production_client.zip. Be sure to download the client software, not the database.
Detailed instructions for obtaining and installing the Oracle 10g client download file for VDX 4.1 [DOC].
The Oracle 10g client installation includes steps to configure tnsnames.ora [TXT] (located under the Oracle install directory in network/ADMIN). The configuration defined here is used by the VDX client to connect to CDL services.

Resetting the Windows Client
It is sometimes necessary to "reset" the VDX Windows client. To do so, locate Wodiak32.exe in the directory where you installed VDX, and run this command as Administrator:
Wodiak32.exe -R
We recomment you do this after installing VDX.
Firewall Rules
The VDX Windows client requires access through the UCOP firewall to connect to the server. Please coordinate with your campus LTAG representative if your ILL subnets change. See this page for your representative:
