Collection Use and Extent Statistics

Collection usage and extent statistics for Calisphere and OAC contributing member institutions are available online, with reports tracking usage as of January 2007. The statistical reports are generated using the AWStats system.

Where are they?

Available online at Digital Special Collections Statistics [password-protected]. You will need a voroEAD account to access the statistics.

What do you get?

Collection extent/size statistics

Where applicable, "View digital objects" runs a search for all your digital objects and "View finding aids" runs a search for all your collection guides to generate collection extent/size information.

Collection usage statistics

Frequency

Statistics are organized by month, and tracked for each day of the month. The reports take between 7-10 days to update; e.g., statistics for January 5 should be published by January 12-15.

What is counted

The number of times a user (robots, spiders, etc are excluded from the statistics) views the ARK URL for one of your objects—that is, a collection guide and/or a digital object. A person has to actually click and view the object; not just have it appear in search results. Usage is tracked for all CDL hosted sites (OAC, Calisphere, JARDA, California Cultures, etc.).

Note that "Search Key phrases” and "Search Keywords" are the terms that users entered from external search engines (e.g., Google) that got them to our sites, not the terms they entered into search forms on our sites.

Why do I have "302 Moved temporarily (redirect) errors"?

These errors are showing because any link to an object or to a search results page is getting counted as a "redirect". For example, every search results page results in 25 to 200 "hits" -- but all of these hits are counted as redirects. Also, for every object viewed, there is one hit for the main page; and then a second for the image on that page. The image also gets counted as a redirect. Every time every image gets shown on a search results, it is counted as a redirect.
