The Publishing Group strives to develop new technologies to improve the search and access capabilities around publications, collections, and data.

One of the primary technical accomplishments of the group has been the development and implementation of the eXtensible Text Framework (XTF), an application that provides a flexible platform for the robust indexing and display of digital content.

The Publishing Group has also been a leader in the development of display technologies for information products, including novel techniques for rendering PDF files as images and displaying PDF snippets associated with keywords within a search results set (KWIC Pics).

The Publishing Group’s unique harvesting system allows the eScholarship to extract text from PDF files, enabling both keyword searching and classification/indexing of publications.
