Collection Analysis

Analysis of member library holdings is an important component of the WEST program. WEST collection analysis prioritizes materials for archiving based on risk and duplication, identifies potential Archive Holders/Builders for those materials, and suggests materials eligible for deselection based on existing archived status. For new WEST members, collection analysis usually takes place during the first year of membership.

WEST collection analysis is handled through Print Archives and Preservation Registry (PAPR) system being developed by the Center for Research Libraries (CRL). Participation in PAPR is a necessary component of WEST, and is included in WEST membership.

Each year, WEST members take part in a Selection Criteria Review Endorsement process.
