Access and Disclosure

Access and delivery

Use of the WEST print archive is likely to be low and would not justify the complexity and expense of separate procedures or lending categories. Therefore, WEST planners recommended using existing borrowing relationships and mechanisms: WEST members do not receive priority lending of WEST materials. WEST members have agreed to provide access and delivery services according to the WEST Access Guidelines [PDF]

Disclosure

WEST Archive Holders and Builders have agreed to update records according to the WEST Disclosure Guidelines which are currently under development.

WEST planners recommended disclosing WEST print archiving commitments and holdings in OCLC WorldCat to support resource-sharing. WEST project staff are working with OCLC and other partners to develop metadata standards for recording print archives in bibliographic and local holdings records. Archive Holders and Builders are also expected to provide records of archived materials to the Print Archives Preservation Registry (PAPR) system being developed by the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), which will support collection analysis for WEST and other shared print programs.
