Regional meetings held in early June brought UC library staff together to discuss the success of automatic requesting of materials (via the Melvyl Catalog’s Request service) during the first half of 1999, and to discuss its further development.  Levels of use, results of a user satisfaction survey, the potential for extension to journal articles, the cancellation of the “Request for Proposals” for a phase II fulfillment service (software), and alternatives for creating more efficiencies in inter-library services work flows were focal points of the meeting.  Readers are encouraged to talk with the ILS staff and to consult the PIR web site at: ( for more information.
