Shared Cataloging Update: Journal Cataloging and PIDs Complete (Becky Culbertson, UCSD)

With the addition of Ethnic Newswatch titles, cataloging of all the online journals in the publisher packages for which CDL has licensed access (as of June 30) has now been completed.

The following is an update on the number of completed Bibliographic Records:

  • Academic IDEAL (191 records)
  • Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) (22 titles)
  • Blackwell Science (Synergy) (241 titles)
  • Company of Biologists (COB) (3 titles)
  • Elsevier ScienceDirect (969 titles)
  • Ethnic Newswatch (194 titles)
  • IEEE Xplore (159 titles)
  • Institute of Physics (36 titles)
  • JSTOR (164 titles)
  • Kluwer Online (432 titles)
  • Project Muse (111 titles)
  • Science (2 titles)
  • Springer LINK (363 titles)
  • Wiley InterScience (257 titles)

The substitution of PIDs (Persistent Identifiers) for URLs in all the CDL electronic journals is also completed (see CDLINFO Vol.3, No.6 [http://www.cdlib.org/news/cdlinfo/cdlinfo051600.html#5] for information about PIDs).

The updating procedure of adding new, changed, and deleted information in the 599 MARC field is going smoothly.

Cataloging ACM conference proceedings is in progress.  Since these are primarily monographs, their records will not be sent to CDL until HOTS and the Shared Cataloging Program (SCP) Steering Committee determine policies and procedures for monographs.
