EZID Service Update: February 2013

Recent Enhancements, News, and Activities

  • DataCite’s Managing Director Jan Brase blogged this month about the “11 most popular datasets” using DataCite Statistics. EZID Clients were 9 out of the 11. Congratulations! (http://bit.ly/YGEufT)
  • EZID currently holds approximately a half million identifiers. Based on conversations with several clients that require much larger numbers of identifiers (in the multiple millions), the EZID development team has been scaling up EZID’s infrastructure and adding new functionality. These features will allow the upload and download of large batches of identifiers.
  • The development team has also been improving the efficiency of the user account setup process and refining our data center naming practices to improve clients’ ability to track identifier usage.

EZID Partners and Clients

Our current EZID clients include academic institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations and a commercial entity. Bolded entries are new additions since our last update.

Service Description

EZID (easy-eye-dee) is a production service that gives researchers the ability to create and manage long-term identifiers so that they can to track usage, get credit for their work, share their data, and have the data reused for additional research. As a result, EZID identifiers also make it possible to increase citations, to build on previous work, to conduct new research, and avoid duplicating previous efforts.
