UC Libraries Digital Collection project: stay in the loop!

In June, the Council of University Librarians announced the creation of a project team at CDL for the UC Libraries Digital Collection (UCLDC), an initiative to build infrastructure for the shared management and display of our libraries’ rich digital collections. Since then, the team has been setting the stage for development and already making progress towards our two-year goals.

Here we’ve outlined the many ways you can learn more about the UCLDC and keep up-to-date on the project—including an introductory webinar on August 28, 11:00 AM Pacific (https://cc.readytalk.com/r/mh7qdkqfopbn&eom).

But first… what is the UCLDC?

The UC Libraries Digital Collection is a collaborative initiative of the ten campus libraries that will result in a shared platform for managing and displaying selected digital resources. The two central objectives of the project are 1) to configure, deploy, and load content into a shared digital asset management system (commonly called a “DAMS”) and 2) to aggregate disparate campus collections in a public access interface. The project is on a two-year timeframe, but we are aiming to have portions of the platform available for use much sooner.

To learn more about the UCLDC, read the overview on our project wiki (https://wiki.library.ucsf.edu/display/UCLDC/Overview+of+the+UCLDC) or attend our intro webinar (info below).

Introductory webinar

We will be hosting an open webinar for anyone interested in the UC Libraries Digital Collection project on Wednesday, August 28 at 11:00 AM. In the webinar, we will cover the objectives and major components of the project, what you can expect to see over the next two years, and our work to date. We’ll also leave plenty of time for questions and discussion. We will be recording the webinar for those who are unable to make it.

Project wiki

Our project wiki is the best place to go for information about the project and our work-to-date. Almost all of the pages on the wiki are open for viewing without a password, so you can see “behind the scenes” into our process and documentation. We will be routinely posting news to the wiki homepage (as well as to the CDLinfo blog). Check it out and let us know what you think.
