Recent Enhancements, News, and Activities

EZID responded to the widely reported OpenSSL “Heartbleed” bug by upgrading our OpenSSL installation and replacing our security certificates to eliminate this particular vulnerability. For more information about CDL’s response to the Heartbleed bug, see http://cdlib.org/2014/04/11/cdl-notice-regarding-us-cert-cve-2014-0160-heartbleed-bug-openssl-vulnerability/.

The team conducted an upgrade of the backend ARK (N2T) storage and resolution infrastructure to a more modern, flexible, secure, and easier-to-maintain software base. In the next few months, we introduce several new features made possible by this new code base, so stay tuned.

Starting in April, EZID Service Manager Joan Starr has been hosting events with clients to gather input into EZID’s 2014-2015 roadmap. The University of California campus representatives met in mid-April, and other clients will participate in a mid-May session. The results will be folded into the new EZID roadmap and published before the end of June.

EZID Service Description

EZID (easy-eye-dee) is a production service that gives researchers the ability to create and manage long-term identifiers so that they can to track usage, get credit for their work, share their data, and have the data reused for additional research. As a result, EZID identifiers also make it possible to increase citations, to build on previous work, to conduct new research, and avoid duplicating previous efforts.
