Oxford updates Biography & Music/Art databases

Oxford Biography Resources

On Monday, November 27, 2017, Oxford University Press (OUP) updated their Biography resources:

  • American National Biography Online: UCB, UCI, UCLA, UCM, UCR, UCSB, UCSC, and UCSD
  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography: UCB, UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCM, UCR, UCSB, UCSC and UCSD [Limited simultaneous user access]

According to the OUP documentation, the biography sites were updated in order to provide a fresh look & feel, enhance discoverability and improve search capabilities, in anticipation of an eventual OUP database migration to the Silverchair platform. The new sites will include:

  • A responsive design enabling seamless access across different formats
  • Searching using a query builder, helping users get straight to the content they need
  • More frequent content updates
  • Social media integration, so users can share content across channels
  • Searching across multimedia, including images and podcasts where available, making it easier to find different types of content

The domain URLs remained the same; however, the location of articles and pages within the domain site may have changed. Consequently, OUP has implemented re-directs within the sites.
