Michael McKinnon Retires

Michael McKinnon, System Architect in CDL’s Infrastructure and Applications Support group, will be retiring on February 2, 2018.

As many of you know, Michael has been the bedrock upon which the CDL technical infrastructure rested for the past 10 years.  He started at UC as a contractor for UCOP IT working to support CDL, and then transitioned to become a key part of the CDL family.

Michael built the Development/Staging environment hosted at the UC Berkeley datacenter and worked tirelessly to coordinate support of our Production environment hosted at the UCOP datacenter.  Over the past 10 years, he has shepherded our infrastructure from physical Sun/Solaris systems (and VCS clusters) to VMware virtual machines (and SAN storage) to Amazon Web Services (AWS) instances, maintaining the highest levels of service to the organization along the way.

Michael’s professionalism, work ethic, technical knowledge, and capacity to learn have been the hallmark of our operations for a decade and set the standard for technical support here at CDL and beyond.

We will truly miss Michael – please join CDL in wishing him well upon his retirement.
