Contributor Metadata Editor released for OAC/Calisphere digital objects

Digital Special Collections is pleased to announce the release of the Metadata Editor, a new tool for contributors to the Online Archive of California (OAC) and Calisphere. The Metadata Editor enables contributors to make changes to their digital objects, without requiring them to re-generate and re-submit METS files.

The Metadata Editor was designed to provide an easy way for contributors to correct errors or add new information to digital objects since they were originally submitted. It will be especially helpful for contributors that no longer have the software required to create the METS files that are required for submission to the OAC and Calisphere.

The Metadata Editor takes the form of a bookmark contributors can add to their web browsers and toggle when they identify the objects they want to edit on the OAC or Calisphere. The bookmark code and instructions for installing it are available in the OAC contributor dashboard. Digital Special Collections will be conducting a demo of the tool at an upcoming webinar for OAC Contributors (https://cc.readytalk.com/r/1n72qduhf0wr).

Development of the Metadata Editor was funded as part of the Local History Digital Resources Project (http://califa.org/lhdrp.php), which is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
